More than sixty years of knowing our clients by name
What started as a small tax practice in 1961 has grown up alongside the families and businesses it serves. The tools look nothing like they used to, and the services have grown a lot, but the heart of the firm is still the one Ann Snipes built: careful work, straight answers, and genuinely caring about the people we work for.
Our story
1961
C&S Income Tax Service opens
Ann Snipes and family friend Charles Craver open a small income tax practice in Winston-Salem. Neither of them could have guessed it would still be going more than sixty years later.
Late 1960s
Ann makes it her own
Ann becomes the sole practitioner, and the firm becomes Ann H. Snipes Accounting and Tax Service. She builds it around individual tax returns and the books and filings of small local businesses, and over the years she comes to know hundreds of clients and their families by name.
The Bob years
A husband-and-wife office
After retiring from Western Electric, Ann's husband Bob joins her in the office. The two of them serve a growing list of clients, most of whom arrive because a friend or neighbor sent them. Bob stays involved until his death in 2000.
2000
A grandson in the back room
Jayson starts helping out by keeping the office computers running, while insisting to anyone who asks that he has no interest in tax. He heads off to build a career in education instead.
2017
A change of plans
Jayson leaves teaching to work beside his grandmother full-time. He learns the technical side of the work from her, along with something harder to teach, which is how to take care of people.
2023
Carrying it forward
Ann passes away in March at 91, having kept seeing clients until the very end. The practice continues under Jayson's leadership, with the same promise she made to every client who walked through the door.

Snipes Tax & Business Advisors
The personal service stays exactly the same. What's new is everything around it: tax planning, bookkeeping, payroll, and business advisory, plus a secure portal that means you only come into the office when you want to.
The name on the door
The sign out front has changed three times since 1961, but the way we treat the people who walk through the door never has.

Meet the owner
Jayson Snipes, CPA, EA
NC CPA License #49221
Jayson grew up around the family practice and spent years saying he'd never make a career of it. After his grandfather passed in 2000, he started keeping the office computers running while he built a career in the classroom.
In 2017 he left teaching to work beside his grandmother full-time, and he quickly found out the job was about a lot more than tax law. Working with Ann taught him the technical side of the work and the personal side too, like remembering what a client told you last spring.
To prepare the firm for its next chapter, he earned a Master of Accounting from UNC-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School, along with his CPA license and Enrolled Agent credential. Today he's focused on pairing the service Ann was known for with modern tools and deeper tax and business advice.
When he's not in the office, you may find Jayson traveling, working on home projects, or spending time with his two beagles. In the fall, you'll find him on the football field officiating high school and college football.
